Start with the game, not the tool
First check whether the game has a native macOS version. If it does, that is usually the simplest route. For a Windows-only title, check recent game-specific compatibility evidence before installing a compatibility layer.
Three questions that matter
- Does the game or launcher depend on anti-cheat or Windows components that are known to block compatibility?
- Has the game been tested recently on Apple Silicon?
- Does the test specify the Mac, macOS version and compatibility-layer version?
Using CrossOver
CrossOver can run many Windows applications on macOS without installing a full Windows virtual machine. Game behavior remains title-specific, so use our database to find tested examples rather than assuming universal compatibility.
Performance workflow
Begin at 1080p or lower with moderate settings. Confirm that the game launches, saves and reaches gameplay before spending time tuning visual quality. Change one major compatibility option at a time so you know what fixed—or broke—the game.
